Sounds like the punchline is that this computer just doesn't meet minimum specs, correct?

EDIT - and trying it on my linux laptop, it had a missing executable, though I verified integrity of game cache.

Yep - I'm afraid so [frown]

Linux laptop: that's weird. Can you try running it manually and seeing if that works? The executable should be in the local files root folder.

In ~/.local/share/Steam/SteamApps/common/Sol Trader/, there are three subdirectories and nothing else.  I don't see any msis in the data, media, or shaders -am I looking in the right spot?

Yes, that sounds right. I'll have a look on my linux machine when I get back to the office tomorrow. Sorry for the problems!

Ok checked. That is the correct folder - there should be a 'sol' file in that folder, along with the soundtrack and 'libsteam_api.so' if you purchased it. My Linux machine is putting it there correctly, which is very odd that yours isn't. Perhaps wipe and reinstall?

Reinstalled from Steam, same issue.  I downloaded from the direct link, since that's how I purchased, and it installed with what appears to be a 'sol' executable, but when I try to run it from the terminal, Klondike Solitaire starts instead.  Maybe the upshot is "I have no idea how to linux."  [smile]

It’s possible that the direct installation might be interpreted by some Linux distros as Solitaire - try running it anyway [smile]

I'm not sure what's going on with the Steam installation. Might just be you [smile] but will try reinstalling here too to see what happens.
